Master in Agricultural Statistics
Registration for the Master II in Agricultural Statistics is open from May 02 to July 15, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.
ENSEA’s Master in Agricultural Statistics has been open since 2018 with the dual support of the FAO, through the Global Strategy Coordination Office (GSARS), which provides technical and financial support, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) as an implementation support partner.
Its aim is to build the capacity of experienced professionals working in the field of agricultural statistics, or those wishing to do so. This cycle is part of the implementation of the training component of the Africa Action Plan of the Global Strategy for Improving Agricultural and Rural Statistics. This component is supervised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
The one-year course (including a 3-month internship) leads to a Master’s degree in Agricultural Statistics. Teaching methods are adapted to the various disciplines, so as to combine theory and practice.

Knowledge control
Semesters last from 12 to 14 weeks, and include teaching and examination sessions. A mid-term jury assesses students’ results. A first-session jury assesses students’ results after the two semesters. A catch-up session is organized after the 1st session jury. A jury examines the results of this session. The jury is made up of all permanent ENSEA teaching staff. Part-time lecturers may also take part. The jury has the final say on the results of the UE or UE module knowledge tests for which the student is registered for each semester.
Knowledge control
Skills and knowledge acquisition are assessed either by regular continuous assessment, or by a final examination, or by a combination of the two.
- Continuous assessment evaluates students over the whole of each semester (written or oral exams, presentations, etc.). This type of assessment is favored in the LMD reform. It enables students to assess their own progress.
- Students are assessed at the end of the semester. It takes the form of a written exam.
Each course includes a test of knowledge. At the end of each course, each teacher proposes a mark of between 0 and 20. The assessment procedures for each course in each module are decided by the Director of Studies. These procedures concern the nature of the tests (written, oral, continuous assessment, presentations, dissertations, homework, group work, duration, documents authorized or not, etc.). The duration of written tests varies from 1h00 to 3h30. As far as possible, the student’s personal work will be assessed for professional subjects.
An examination may consist of a single test per EU.
Students are informed of the form and methods of continuous assessment and examination when they register. They are informed at least one month in advance, before the start of the 1st session exams, of the dates of written tests and oral examination periods. In the case of shortened sessions, they are informed at least two weeks before the start of the tests for the make-up session.
Information on examination dates, times and locations is posted on the appropriate notice boards at least 1 week before the start of the session. This notice serves as the examination invitation. By way of derogation, certain tests may take place outside normal examination periods, in view of the particular requirements of certain courses.
The documents that students are authorized to use during tests and examinations will also be indicated. No student may sit more than two exams or make-up exams for the same UE. To benefit from this arrangement, students must provide proof that they belong to one of the categories defined above.
The 2nd session tests are not necessarily based on the same model as the 1st session tests. Continuous assessment marks may be retained for the final calculation of the 2nd session mark.
Conditions for validating a Teaching Unit
A UE can include different modules. A UE is acquired :
- When the average of the marks obtained for the various modules of the UE, calculated on the basis of coefficients proportional to the number of credits allocated to each element, is equal to or greater than an average of 10.
- Validation of experience or higher education acquired in France or abroad
Each UE acquired confers on the student the corresponding number of credits. UEs are definitively acquired and can be capitalized on as soon as the student has obtained an average of 10 (partial validation). Students receive credits for subjects for which the average is higher than 10, even if the UE is not validated.
Semester credits are earned :
- by compiling the credits obtained in each EU of the semester;
- by validation of acquired experience or higher education completed in France or abroad.
- by validation of professional experience
Conditions for successful completion of the training year
The average grade obtained by a student at the end of the first year is equal to the average of the semester averages, calculated at the end of the 1st session of semester 2. A physical education mark (coefficient 3), an assessment mark (coefficient 3) and a penalty for poor attendance are added to this average to obtain the annual average.
For physical education and assessment, only the part of the grade between 12 and 20 counts. The physical education mark is awarded and communicated to students by the Director of Studies on the recommendation of the Physical Education teacher. The general assessment grade takes into account all the work done during the year, as well as the student’s attendance and general behavior.
At the end of the year, the following penalties are applied to the overall average based on the number of hours of unjustified absences:
- 10 to 19 hours: 0.025 points per hour of absence ;
- 20 hours or more: 0.05 points per hour of absence
Any student whose average grade is less than 10 out of 20 will be permanently excluded from ENSEA, except in cases of force majeure at the discretion of the first session jury.
Any student whose annual average is between 10 and 12 out of 20 is allowed to sit the make-up exam in subjects in which he or she has obtained marks of less than 12 out of 20. The list of subjects that can be taken as make-up exams is left to the discretion of the first session jury. No more than five modules may be retaken.
The jury may decide to repeat a course if the student’s annual average, recalculated after the make-up session, is between 10 and 12. Only UEs that have already been validated can be capitalized. Only one repetition is allowed during the course.
Certificate in Agricultural Statistics
The Certificate in Agricultural Statistics is an institutional diploma. It is awarded when the annual average is greater than or equal to 12. Validation of the Certificate is conditional on validation of the internship. The jury for the first session examines the award of the Certificate in Agricultural Statistics. It awards a grade based on the average annual training grade, according to the following scale (graded out of 20):
- Mention “Assez bien” (grade of at least 12 and less than 14) ;
- Mention “Bien” (grade of at least 14 and less than 16);
- Mention “Très bien” (mark of at least 16).
The remedial jury examines the award of the Certificate in Agricultural Statistics. It awards a “Passable” grade to students whose annual average, recalculated after the make-up session, is higher than 12. This average is automatically reduced to 12. The jury decides what information specific to each course is to appear in the diploma supplement attached to the Certificate in Agricultural Statistics awarded to the student. Jury decisions are taken by consensus. At the end of its deliberations, the jury draws up a record of decisions, signed by the members of the jury. The minutes are posted.
